About FEC

From its beginnings, Folklore Ensemble Croatia has strived to be a rich and complete amateur folklore ensemble in singing, dancing and music. Sharing this wealth of character with all nationalities, as well as an expansive collection of costumes and instruments, which has helped us achieve this goal.

 

The history of our group begins in 1971, when the group "Hrvatska" was formed with only 25 members in Toronto. By 1976, many Croatian immigrants and their families had settled in Mississauga, and a large Croatian community was established. In 1984, the two groups "Zrinski-Frankopan" and Toronto "Hrvatska" merged, creating "Folklore Ensemble Croatia - Mississauga".  Throughout its 50 years of existence, Folklore Ensemble Croatia has held on to and still holds onto the belief that it is essential to bring and preserve our heritage to Croatian-Canadians through music, song and dance.

Over the years, the group has been fortunate to have many gifted and talented teachers who have contributed to what FEC is today. Their unparalleled dedication and unwavering commitment to the group has been invaluable. It is their wealth of knowledge and passion that has ensured, and continues to ensure, the group's enduring legacy of excellence and inspiration for generations to come.

Today, Folklore Ensemble Croatia serves as a symbol that Croatian culture is thriving among generations. Many people are familiar with the FEC saying "once a member, always a member". We are family and we want future generations to feel that way so that they too can look at FEC as an extension of their family.
